Dear Friends in Christ,

This week’s worship videos are now available:

Those of you who pray with Rite II will notice a change this week. I'm experimenting with an alternate General Thanksgiving prayer, the one found on page 836 of the Book of Common Prayer. It is one of several in our Prayer Book by the Rev. Dr. Charles Price, an alumnus and legendary professor of the Virginia Theological Seminary, minister of Memorial Church and chair of the board of preachers at Harvard, and chair of the drafting committee for prayers and thanksgivings of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. He also served on the Committee on Texts for The Hymnal 1982, which includes a number of his texts.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover a traditional language version of Fr. Price's thanksgiving prayer in the Anglican Service Book which, if there are no complaints, I will incorporate into Rite I next week.

If you didn't see it, the article Not so random acts: Science finds that being kind pays off which I saw in the Gloucester Daily Times is worthy of your attention. I vaguely remembered reading about some of the science of kindness, but the article lays it out in a concise and accessible way.

Hope you all had a great, if unusual, Fourth of July, and I hope to see many of you at coffee hour. God bless you all, or should I say, God shed his grace on thee.

Peace,

Bret
