Guitar  Concert
 

Robert Squires, noted Cape Ann guitar player, will be performing a solo recital at St. John's at 4 pm on Sunday, February 28.  From the Pavana of 1536, to Bach, to Flamenco works, to music of the Beatles, to a world premiere of a work by Boston composer Leonardo Ciampa, Squires will explore the vast range of guitar music.

Robert Squires is a Woburn native, and has lived in a tiny cottage overlooking Wingaersheek Beach for 25 years.  He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and a Silver medalist in competitions in Carmel and Montreal in 1981.  He has taught at Phillips Academy, Exeter NH for 31 years.  He's played with David Morrow and the Cape Ann Chamber Orchestra, and Jeffrey Rink and the Newton Philharmonic.  Recent performances include the Cape Ann Museum and the Boston Guitar Society.  He is also featured on several Youtube videos, search "bobby squires".  In addition to classical music pursuits, Mr. Squires was lead guitarist in the Beatles tribute band "Beatle Juice" led by the legendary Bradley Delp (of Boston fame).  He also played in "The Cars" with Ben Orr.

The concert will include 2 short works for guitar and organ, featuring the Gloucester made C. B. Fisk, "Opus 97" built completed in 1989, and recently featured in a multi concert 20th anniversary series with performers from around the United States, Germany and England.   Mark Nelson, music director of St. John's Church will play the organ.

The performance will be followed by a reception in the Thompson Room adjacent to the church.  The program is open to the public, $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.  St. John's is handicap accessible.  Parking is available in the church lot off Washington Street across from Winchester Fishing.
